Breakfast battle

While the British are not renowned for their culinary finesse, the practice of serving thin strips of toast called soldiers to dip into a soft-boiled egg gets universal approval. So what better way to hold an eggy offering aloft than a trio of sabre-rattling military men?

Sure, it’s just a cheeky play on words, but this clever little egg cup could easily spark a breakfast debate about when it’s appropriate to use arms to solve disputes and when it’s better to sit down together and discuss things over a runny egg. If the topic’s too hot to handle, tackle that other burning issue – whether it’s more correct to lop off the top of an egg with a knife, or crack it with the back of a spoon and remove the shell?

The Soldier Egg Cup is available from Vancouver-based Boys To Men Gifts (www.boystomengifts.com 1-888-512- 4438) for $21.99 (shipping is extra).
